Marine Biodiversity : Prince Albert II of Monaco committed to protect bluefin tuna from extinction (March, 2010)

Prince Albert II of Monaco has committed Himself and His Foundation to protect bluefin tuna from extinction. To this extent, the Principality of Monaco had proposed to include this kind of high value tuna trade in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) to ban international trade and to protect the population affected by overfishing.

The 175-nation Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, or CITES, met in Doha (Qatar) and on March 18, 2010, the vote was 68 countries against a ban, 20 in favor and 30 abstaining.
