THE PRINCPALITY OF MONACO – April 17, 2015 -- On Saturday May 9, the Automobile Club of Monaco will stage the first Monaco ePrix - free with pre-reserved tickets offered on a first come, first serve basis - as part of its efforts to encourage the development of renewable energies.

The Monaco ePrix will be the 7th race in the FIA’s thrilling new international motorsport series featuring electric-powered single-seat racing cars in the world’s first fully-electric race series which showcases electrical-energy vehicle innovations, promotes sustainability and will appeal to a new generation of motorsport fans. The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is one of the official Formula E founding partners in keeping with the personal commitment of Monaco’s Sovereign, Prince Albert, to promote sustainable development and transition to a low carbon economy.

From September 2014 to June 2015, ten teams, each with two drivers, compete in the heart of ten of the world’s leading cities, including Beijing, Buenos Aires, Miami, Long Beach, Berlin, London and Monaco. While the Formula One Grand Prix is the best-known event on Monaco’s motor sporting calendar, the Principality is proud to host this ground-breaking new automotive encounter in 2015.

The first edition of the Monaco ePrix will be presented as a free-entry event in order to raise the awareness of new energy solutions within the community and particularly within schools, colleges and universities. To join the festivities, interested travelers should not waste any time as the race is offering free tickets on a first-come, first-serve basis and prime viewing seats are going fast. The history of Monaco and motorsports dates back more than a century. The Monte-Carlo Rally, which debuted in 1911, is considered the most prestigious event of the World Rally Championship. Next year, from January 18-24, the 84th edition will see competitors “start their engines” in Monaco, ride in the nearby Alpes-Maritimes, and end with the Winners’ Podium Prize-Giving Ceremony in front of the Princely Palace. In addition, the 19th Monte-Carlo Historic Rally from January 27 through February 3, 2016 is expected to see hundreds of legendary participants. The Monaco Historic Grand Prix kicks off every other year prior to the Formula One Grand Prix and its 10th edition will take place from May 13-15, 2016.
Of all the F1 Grand Prix, Monaco’s race has become one of the world’s most thrilling and glamorous sporting events since its inception in April 1929. The legendary twisting 78-lap circuit runs through the narrow streets of Monte-Carlo on a temporary track with speeds up to 186 mph, offering incalculable opportunities for spectators to witness screaming engines, smoking tires and the genius of the drivers allowing no margin for error. In 2015, the 73rd Monaco F1 Grand Prix will be held from May 21-24.
